Shilajit "Black Gold"

by Darryn James 14 Jun 2022 0 Comments

Primarily found in the rocks of the Himalayas, between India and Nepal, Shilajit is a mineral compound made up of humus and decayed organic material that has been compressed by layers of rock for hundreds of years.

As the organic material decomposes, the compounds mix with microbial metabolites. Then, a long process of fermentation begins where that material embeds itself deep into the rock.

Over time, Shilajit exudes from the rock as a dark, tar-like substance that is then harvested for natural medicinal use.

Shilajit contains nearly every element in the periodic table, including 84 different minerals, vitamins and nutrients.

To stay consistently healthy, every human being should have at least 90 nutrients in their diet, including vitamins, minerals, and amino acids.

It’s probably no surprise that the processed and fast foods we often consume not only don’t have many of these nutrients, but they can also deplete the body of these essentials.

Shilajit contains many mineral ingredients that help support a healthy immune system, including fulvic acid, zinc, potassium, calcium, iron, and antioxidants that can benefit the body at the cellular level to create balance.

Ayurvedic medicine

It’s a common substance used in the ancient practice of Ayurvedic medicine, a 5,000-year-old method of disease prevention and treatment originating in India and still practiced in many Asian countries.

Ayurvedic medicine is built on the concept that by keeping equilibrium in the body’s three “doshas,” one can live a long and healthy life without the use of prescription medications.

One reason shilajit is such an effective medicinal herb is due to its high fulvic acid content. Fulvic acid has many proven benefits, from improving gut health to keeping skin healthy. This ancient herb contains a huge percentage of fulvic acid and is one of the most common supplements used to increase your intake of this potent acid.

Shilajit is known by the locals in India as the “conqueror of mountains” and the “destroyer of weakness” because of its powerful effects on vitality and its ability to give the local Sherpas the almost supernatural strength and stamina they need to summit the peak.

Various references to the potent effects of Shilajit extend all the way back to ancient Greece. In fact, it’s believed the philosopher, Aristotle, introduced this elixir to Alexander the Great who fed shilajit to his armies to ensure victory on the battlefield.

During the middle ages another great conqueror, the mongul Genghis Khan, added Shilajit to the rations of his generals, personal guards and special units.

More recently, it’s believed to be one of the secret ingredients that helped Russian strongmen dominate powerlifting competitions for decades as well as one of the main fuel sources for Russian cosmonauts during the space race of the 1960’s.

We will end off with this list of incredible benefits :

Energy

  • Shilajit works at the cellular level, making it a key contributor to healthy mitochondrial function and energy and alleviates oxidative damage caused by free radicals.
  • Shilajit plays a direct role in the synthesis of Adenosine triphosphate, or ATP, the primary energy currency in the body.
  • Shilajit works synergistically and with a sparing effect on CoQ-10 to promote mitochondrial energy synthesis.

Adaptogen

  • Shilajit is an effective rejuvenator that supports normal physiological functions.
  • Shilajit helps to combat the effects of physical and environmental stress.
  • Shilajit functions as a transporter or carrier to enhance the bioavailability of other nutrients into the body’s cells.

Anti-aging

  • Shilajit has targeted action for revitalizing the body and mind, and supporting the aging process.
  • Shilajit boosts mitochondrial energy synthesis, an essential biological process for healthy aging.

Sexual Health

  • Shilajit helps combat non-specific loss of vigor associated with aging.
  • Purified shilajit has been used since ancient times to support male reproductive health.
  • Shilajit promotes healthy testosterone levels.
  • Shilajit, in a clinical study, was shown to promote healthy sperm production and improve male reproductive health by enhancing sperm quality, quantity and motility.
  • Shilajit helps combat oxidative stress. In a clinical study, subjects taking Shilajit were found to have lower semen levels of Malondialdehyde, a naturally occurring compound that is a marker of oxidative stress.
